This project investigates failure problems in the Voltage Source Inverters used to control the electric generators in a wind farm. These inverters handle the total power obtained from the electric generators. Therefore, they are a key device in the production process. So far the d.c. link voltage has been sudied during operation looking for dangerous overvoltage. The drive circuit of the inverters has also been studied. A test rig has been built in the University where an inverter has been installed and the tests are carried out.
The project will now look at the inverter snubber circuits and the IGBT conmutation. In addition a braking circuit for the d.c. link will be designed
